Every school day starts with roughly 30 minutes of holistic health. The course starts with mindfulness. In general, on Mondays, we listen to Wayne Dyer's interpretation of the Tao te Ching then discuss it, Tuesdays we do a guided meditation, Wednesdays we learn about another aspect of mindfulness (gratitude, breathwork, etc), and Thursdays we do a yoga nidra. Next is the movement time of holistic health where we focus on a combination of movement opportunities and exercises to fully work our bodies and for the kids to figure out what kind of movement they most enjoy. This involves cycling through different movement opportunities, mostly using YouTube videos. Exercises include kickboxing, HIIT, Qi Gong, tai chi, cardio, yoga, afrobeats, pilates, zumba, and riding bikes. The class also tackles such issues as nutrition and the gut/brain connection, the nervous system, and the science behind gratitude. The goal of this class is to instill the importance of taking care of our bodies - movement, meditation nutrition, sleep - and establish a practice for achieving this.Â
